Horseneck Surf Rescue lifeguards can be expected, when necessary, to respond on foot to emergencies in and around the Horseneck Beach State Reservation. This responsibility can require a lifeguard to have to run over 2 miles through uneven terrain and soft sand or through the high dunes in the area. For this reason, the lifeguard workouts contain a mixture of running and swimming. On this page you will find some of the favorite (and least favorite for those that don't like running) workout routes compiled over the years by the HNB Surf Rescue team. Some of these routes are very picturesque and are also run by non-lifeguard running enthusiasts through out the year.
